An evolution of our brands in 2026
The Payconiq brand will disappear in the course of 2026, and in 2026 our brand identity and brands will undergo a makeover. In the spring of 2026, our company will become ‘Bancontact Company’ and our mobile payment solution will evolve into ‘Bancontact Pay’.

It is no secret that the current Payconiq platform for merchants is evolving into a payment platform that currently accepts mobile payments via Bancontact and, in spring 2026, Wero as well. Consumers can continue to pay in-store or online with their Payconiq by Bancontact app or their banking app. This is part of a bigger story in which we are entering a new era.
What will change for consumers in spring 2026: the arrival of 'Bancontact Pay'
For the two million users of the current Payconiq by Bancontact app, the transition will be very simple: the current app will be updated to the Bancontact Pay app. The update will happen automatically and you will not need to download anything new. The change to the app is mainly visual (new name, logo, colours). All features, such as payments via QR code in shops, between friends and online, will remain unchanged. Adding loyalty cards, receiving and paying invoices in the app, purchasing train and bus tickets, etc. will also remain possible via Bancontact Pay.
For Belgian consumers, this change will provide greater clarity, both online and in shops. For online payments, three new brands will appear under the Bancontact umbrella, which should ensure a simpler and clearer payment experience:
- ‘Bancontact Pay’: for mobile payments via the bank app or the Bancontact Pay app (the current “Payconiq by Bancontact” app).
- ‘Bancontact Card’: for online payments with a Bancontact debit card via a card reader.
- ‘Bancontact One Click’: for one-click payments where the consumer has previously shared their payment card details with the merchant (e.g. for recurring payments such as subscriptions).
The current Payconiq stickers in shops will be replaced in spring 2026 by a new sticker with a QR code that mentions both Bancontact Pay and Wero. As is currently the case, this QR code will be scannable with banking apps and the Bancontact Pay app (currently the Payconiq by Bancontact app).
What will change in spring 2026 for merchants who currently accept Payconiq?
From spring 2026, Payconiq merchants will find their specific tools under one name, namely ‘Bancontact Pro’:
- The current Payconiq GO app, which allows merchants to enter the amount to be paid themselves via their smartphone or tablet, will become the Bancontact Pro app.
- The Merchant Portal, which allows merchants to track their transactions and manage their merchant account, will also be renamed Bancontact Pro.
The new Bancontact and Wero payment platform will be available to merchants between October and December 2025. This platform still accepts payments via the Payconiq by Bancontact app (‘Bancontact Pay’ in the near future) and banking apps. It currently supports Bancontact and will support Wero in spring 2026.
New promotional material in stores: in spring 2026, every merchant will receive new visuals, including a sticker with a QR code and display material, to show that they accept Bancontact and Wero payments.
Bancontact: a trusted brand, ready for the future
With nearly 18 million cards in circulation, 2 million active app users, integration into most banking apps and more than 2.5 billion transactions per year, Bancontact is deeply embedded in the daily lives of Belgian consumers. The brand is known as the second most “meaningful” brand in the country (Havas Meaningful Brands 2025) and is synonymous with simple and secure electronic payments. Bancontact Company's new identity builds on this trust and looks ahead to a new era of innovation.
